Sensitisation Campaigns against Gender Based Violence are run in the Refugee Camps.

The UN defines violence against women as
“any act of gender based violence that results in, or is likely to result in physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or private life'’

GBV comes under different forms among which are sexual harassment, female genital mutilation (FGM) and rape.
Economic dependency together with social and cultural disadvantages continue to leave women and children exposed to violence and abuse. Violence is used to establish and enforce gender roles. A new concept of African masculinity and values of manhood need to be put into place to create a culture of gender equality.
